Robbie Robertson is a popular Canadian music artist who is known for being a part of the music band named “The Band”. He has also worked in various films as a music director. The artist has bagged his position at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Canadian Hall of Fame. He has also been named by Rolling Stones under the 100 Top Guitarists of All Times.

Robbie Robertson had his humble beginnings in Toronto living with his parents Rosemarie and James Robertson. His mother was raised in the Six Nations Reserves where Robbie used to frequent as a child

It is here that he learns how to play the guitar. Even as a young boy he was interested in Rock and Roll and R&B music. His biological father was actually a Jewish gambler who was killed in a hit-and-run incident.

Robbie’s original birth name was Jaime Royal Robertson. Robbie started to work at the age of 14 and his first experiences on a carnival circuit were included in the song Life is a Carnival. His first band was called Little Caesar and the Consuls and the artists worked with the band for about a year. Later he and his friend Pete “Thumper” Traynor decided to form Robbie and the Rhythm Chords in 1957.

Robbie had changed his name during this time when he was impressed by a character from Forbidden Planet. He also altered the look of his guitar to give it a space theme. The members of the band “The Band” came together in 1961. The group initially consisted of Rick Danko, Mickey Jones, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, Robbie Robertson, Sandy Konikoff. The members however kept changing within the years it was active.

Robbie had become quite successful in his music career during his time at The Band. He had also played alongside Bob Dylan and did two shows with him. The band also toured with Dylan and were known for their American folk music.

Around 1980, Robbie was offered to assist Martin Scorsese in creating music for the film Raging Bull.

They developed a good working relationship and the duo went on to create music for Scorese’s next films The King of Comedy in 1983 and The Color of Money in 1986. Robbie continued working in films as a music director and producer and has worked in several films throughout his career. He also had a fairly successful solo career as a musician after signing with Geffen Records in 1987 after which he released his first album, Robbie Robertson.

His songs have often topped the US and UK Billboards. He then went on to make 5 more albums as a solo artist. Robbie was married to his wife Dominique Bourgeois who is a journalist in Canada. They later divorced but had three children together. Robbie’s extremely successful music career made him popular and earned him millions. Currently, his net worth stands at $40 million.
