For only eight episodes of television, the second half of Lucifer packed in a lot. Not only did we finally get to spend some quality time with “Dad” AKA God (Dennis Haysbert), not only did we get the long-awaited musical episode (with a surprise appearance by Debbie Gibson!), and not only did we get one of the series’ best stand-alone episodes in “Daniel Espinoza: Naked and Afraid” — but we also saw Lucifer (Tom Ellis) fulfil a most surprising destiny: becoming God Himself.
As showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich have discussed before, Season 5 was of course originally thought to be the show’s final season, and the news that Netflix would be renewing it for a (this time for real) final sixth season came just as they were writing the finale. Their solution to that welcome problem: end Season 5 at the fifth act of the original series finale. “We decided that’s a pretty good cliffhanger,” Modrovich told Collider.
And that ending became the starting for the very awaited season 6!
Setting premise of the series
The series focuses on Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), a handsome and powerful angel who was cast out of Heaven for his rebellion. As the Devil, Lucifer tired of the millennia he’s spent being the Lord of Hell, punishing people. Becoming increasingly bored and unhappy with his life in Hell, he abdicates his throne in defiance of his father (God) and abandons his kingdom for Los Angeles, where he runs his own nightclub called Lux.
When he finds himself involved in a murder investigation, he meets the intriguing Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German). After helping the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) solve the case by using his power to manipulate humans into revealing their deepest desires, Lucifer accepts a subsequent invitation to work with Chloe as a consultant to the department, and throughout the series, they encounter all sorts of supernatural beings while solving crimes together and developing their relationship.
Deets of the new season
Since Lucifer season 6 wrapped production in late March 2021, they are most likely still in the midst of post-production. Due to Netflix having released Lucifer season 5, part 2 in Q2, it will most likely be a couple of months until they drop the final season. If it doesn’t get released sometime in Q4, it most likely means that Lucifer season 6 won’t premiere until sometime in 2022. But as the global pandemic is slightly making things easier again and the fact, they have fewer episodes counting at just 10 compared to last season’s 16, it’s possible Lucifer season 6 will arrive on Netflix near the end of 2021.
Chloe’s unexpected pregnancy?
The main speculation and conspiracy gripping the Lucifer fandom is the possible unexpected pregnancy of Chloe. We saw in last season in the finale “A Chance at a Happy Ending,” Lucifer Morningstar’s twin brother Michael (both portrayed by Tom Ellis) stabs Chloe in the abdomen, killing her until Lucifer heads to heaven and revives her. However, this stabbing and the instrument used to puncture her gut has fans talking.
Michael wields Zadkiel’s (Joel Rush) staff, which is made from wood taken from the Tree of Life. Fans theorize that this staff’s possible unforeseen celestial powers might cause pregnancy in Chloe, due to where she was stabbed. Others are also theorizing that Chloe might already be unknowingly pregnant with Lucifer’s baby, meaning this staff might give the unborn child celestial powers, unlike Amenadiel and Linda’s son, Charlie.
Others are even digging into Chloe’s name itself, claiming it’s a hint of things to come. Chloe originates from Greek, where it is often cited as meaning “fertility” or “blooming.” Add this meta-detail in with the in-universe question of God’s (Dennis Haysbert) grand plan for Chloe’s life, and it’s not hard to see why fans have pegged a pregnancy for the upcoming instalments.
