Since its release in 2022, ChatGPT has become the fastest-growing app of all time. According to a recent analysis, over 100 million people became active users on the platform within the first two months. For comparison, it took over nine months for TikTok to reach the same number.
Now, ChatGPT, which is owned by a company called OpenAI, will be available as a free mobile app for iPhone and iPad users and an Android version will be available very soon.
ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool that uses AI to allow users to have conversations with a chatbot. Users can also use it to help with some tasks, like writing emails. The standard version is currently free on web browsers and there is also a premium version.
According to OpenAI, the app will give users more features so they can experience more of the benefits of artificial intelligence. In a statement, the company said, “With the ChatGPT app for iOS, we’re taking another step towards our mission by transforming state-of-the-art research into useful tools that empower people, while continuously making them more accessible.”
Shortly after its launch, Elon Musk responded to the news that ChatGBP already had a million users by tweeting: “ChatGPT is scary good. We are not far from dangerously strong AI.”
So, what do the new apps have to offer? The Apple app version is slightly different in a couple of ways. One of the new features that is available is device syncing. This means that if the user starts a conversation on one device, their search history will be stored and they can continue to access it on their other devices.
In addition to this, the app will have voice-to-text capabilities. Users will still be able to type in their questions into the ChatBot, but it will also use OpenAI’s Whisper technology, which is described by the company as “an automatic speech recognition system trained on 680,000 hours of multilingual and multitask supervised data collected from the web”. Using this technology, users will be able to speak directly into the search bar.
