Earlier in the week, some Twitter users reported an outage that meant they weren’t able to Tweet for several hours. According to the tracking website DownDetector, The technical problems happened on Wednesday, although it’s still unclear how many users were affected.
Some Twitter users say they received a message saying they were “over the daily limit for sending Tweets”, despite this not being the case, and they couldn’t send any more Tweets.
The daily limit for Tweets is 2,400 a day, and some users were told they were over this limit when they weren’t. In some cases, users hadn’t posted at all that day.
Additionally, some users said they were having problems with their Twitter messages and lost access to their TweetDeck dashboard for a short time.
Since buying Twitter last year for $44 billion, Elon Musk has reduced the number of employees to 2,300 from 8,000. Experts have warned that the recent cuts at Twitter could cause technical issues. However, it’s not clear whether this was a factor in the outage.
When purchasing the company, Elon Musk pledged to make big changes at Twitter, saying that the platform had “tremendous potential”. He also said: “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.”
This outage was fixed quickly after Twitter responded by saying: “Twitter may not be working as expected for some of you. Sorry for the trouble. We’re aware and working to get this fixed.”
There have been some other issues with Twitter in the last few weeks, with more users complaining about bugs including some claiming they should lock their accounts to increase their Tweet reach and engagement.
Some of the new developments, like Twitter Blue, are also in the process of being introduced. The $ 8-a-month subscription service means that some US-based users can now post longer tweets, with the limit being raised to 4,000 from the normal 280-characters for free accounts.
