Emil Wakim Exits Saturday Night Live After One Season

Comedian Emil Wakim has confirmed that he will not return for Season 51 of Saturday Night Live (SNL), marking the end of his short but memorable run on NBC’s long-standing sketch comedy show.

Wakim shared the news on Instagram Wednesday, reflecting on his departure with humor and gratitude. “It was a gut punch of a call to get, but I’m so grateful for my time there,” he wrote. The comedian revealed he received the news while celebrating a friend’s birthday at Six Flags, joking that he took “a really emotional walk through Bugs Bunny Park and stared out across Daffy Duck Lake thinking about life.”

A Heartfelt Farewell to SNL

In his post, Wakim described working on SNL as a dream come true. “Every time I scanned into the building, I would think how insane it is to get to work there,” he said. “It was the most terrifying, thrilling, and rewarding experience of my life, and I will miss it dearly — along with all the brilliant people who made it feel like home.”

Wakim joined SNL for Season 50, making his mark with sharp humor and strong performances, including appearances during the “Weekend Update” segment alongside anchor Colin Jost. Despite only spending one season on the show, his energy and comedic timing were well-received by fans.

His exit follows the recent departure of fellow cast member Devon Walker, who also announced that he would not return for the new season. Walker, who spent three years on SNL, likened his experience to “a little marriage,” saying it had both highs and lows. The departures come as the show prepares for a fresh lineup of cast members ahead of its milestone 51st season.

Looking Ahead to New Creative Chapters

Wakim took a moment in his announcement to thank SNL creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels for giving him the opportunity. “Thank you to Lorne for taking a chance on me and changing my life,” he wrote. “I was so lucky to bring some of myself in there and say things I believed in. I’m excited for whatever chapter comes next. Here’s to making more art without compromise.”

The comedian’s message resonated with fans and fellow performers who praised his talent and authenticity in the comments. Many expressed excitement to see what he does next, both on stage and possibly in new creative ventures.

Saturday Night Live has long been a launching pad for comedians and actors, with many alumni going on to successful careers in film, television, and stand-up. While Wakim’s journey with the show was brief, it clearly left a lasting impression on him — and on audiences who appreciated his fresh comedic voice.

NBC has announced that SNL Season 51 will premiere on October 4, continuing its legacy of live sketch comedy and introducing a new mix of talent to replace the recent departures.
